Excellences of the natural “Porto degli Angeli” amphitheatre in Arcugnano (Vicenza).
Vicenza is 40 km away from Verona (about 25 minutes by train), 59 km from Venice (about 30 minutes by train), 200 km from Milan (2 hours by train) and 539 km from Rome (5 hours by train).
The largest, thousand-year old natural theatre in the world partially emerged from water (from the Oligocene epoch). The scene and the stage are still under water.
The age-old, upper Holy Italic Temple, was Juliet’s birthplace (Juliet from "Romeo and Juliet" by Luigi Da Porto – John Florio – Shakespeare).
It is accessible from the Templar Soul Purification pathway (painted by Giovanni Bellini in the Holy Allegory).
Its temple is part of a pentacular geometric scheme drawn by the Templars from the Constellation of the Virgin.
The "Porto degli Angeli" Amphitheatre, from the depth od its large cove, has a natural soundboard that can optimally enhance sounds (8 Hz can be amplified up to 432 Hz).
Dimensions: it was huge until 1300 (the largest in its category in Northern Europe). Original cave: about 150 m high above the level of the Venetian Fontego lake (Lago della Fontega). After 1300, over 150 m diameter. After 1600: 120 m diameter, 25 stairs. Scene and stage under water or on the “Giovanni Bellini” raft. The largest ancient, natural theatre in Northern Europe.

Seating capacity: 4.300 people.
Total staff capacity: 300 people among orchestra musicians, dancers, singers.
The "Porto degli Angeli" anphitheatre is a historical dwelling currently not accessible by visitors, as it is still part of the private heritage of the Italian State. On 23rd May 2015 the theatre will no longer be a private State property. Opening to international visitors: Saturday, 23rd May 2015 at 9 am along with Expo 2015 and the Giro d'Italia.
